The One Where It’s Not As Bad As It Seems

My son asked me the other day, “Did you ever imagine the country would be in the state it is in like it is today?” The answer was “I don’t believe it is as bad as it seems.”

Having been born in the early sixties, I have seen a lot of turmoil in my life. The earliest I remember was the Nixon/McGovern presidential election.

I was in the sixth grade and our teachers decided to hold a mock election. I didn’t pay attention to politics at that age but apparently, a lot of kids did. I do remember kids threatening to beat each other up on the playground about issues kids have no business being concerned about.

I did some quick research and the issues fifty years ago sound much the same as today. Not trusting the government, the elite has one set of rules and the common man has another. https://youtu.be/fswi_bplViQ

It is easy to get caught up in the news feeds that harbor hate. On the news, it seems that is all there is in America. One side versus another, whether it be politics, gender, race, or, income level.

When I’m out in public, I don’t run into that kind of divisiveness.

Kathie and I took some time to visit a couple of cultural events today. The Mount Dora Craft Show and the Lake Ridge Winery. At each event, every creed, color, sexual orientation, and socioeconomic stratum was represented.

There was no strife, there was no “I’m better than you”. There were only folks enjoying the day and showing kindness and respect to each other.

I believe that in the everyday world we all have more in common than the media would like us to know.

So I say with a kind and loving heart, be gentle with one another.
